News Update About Phishing and Domain scams

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015

I just wanted to make everyone aware of 3 scams going on and to always contact EthicalHost if you ever have any question on whether something you receive is real or not. Those of you with a .ca domain (privacy is automatic)  and/or have domain privacy enabled, you don’t need to worry as much about this.

1) The DROC and iDNS send out letters in the postal mail. See this PDF for what it looks like..

2) Phishing messages
Some new message have been going around suggesting your domain is suspended and to click a link. See this PDF  for what it looks like. NetEarthOne is the registrar that I use for most domains except .ca domains so that part is real, but everything else about the message is wrong including the weird font and we will NEVER send out a message like that. It will always have EthicalHost contact information attached to the message, but even if it does, please always contact me first if you are unsure.

3) Emails from china about trademark claims
from time to time you may receive emails stating that a trademark claim has been submitted and they are offering you the ability to secure your domains in various extensions first, these are bogus scam emails and they can safely be deleted as well.

also you can be pretty sure any email starting with Dear Sir/Madam is spam.

EthicalHost Adds R1Soft CDP Backup Solution

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

This is very exciting. Backups are very important no matter what you are doing and while you should as a webmaster never rely on your hosts backups, we have implemented a system that should at least take a little worry away.

The new backup server automatically grabs an incremental update every 3 hours and also archives your databases (in full).  These backup files can be accessed without any need to contact us for help and are available from within the cpanel control panel and downloaded OR restored back to your root folder as a zip archive.

Some hosts charge up to $6/mo for this or similar services and although we wanted to make the service free, the cost of the backup software and the server require that we charge something for this service. However instead of adding one more monthly fee onto everyone’s plate, this service will be available for a ONE TIME setup fee of $25.

please visit: (you will need to login to your billing management area before you can order the service)

With the addition of this new service, any restore request will now be billed at a rate of $40 per incident to reflect the time it takes to complete such a request.

you can demo this service until Feb 1st, free of charge just look for the r1soft backup/restore icon in your cpanel control panel and check it out. If you don’t subscribe to the service, this icon will be removed on Feb 1st.

Ethical Host Increases Web Hosting Package Limits

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Ethical Host has just increased all its hosting plan’s bandwidth and disk space limits. In an era of false advertising and claims of “unlimited” space etc, we feel this type of claim is misleading the public as nothing can be unlimited. When you look at the fine print, there are all sorts of restrictions that would make these claims impossible to uphold. We feel it is unethical to advertise in such a way and therefore refuse to jump on this bandwagon that once again has reared its ugly head (this was a marketing fad back in the late 90’s as well). Our plans are designed to suit most web sites on the internet today while offering a higher level of service.
